Margaret Corbin, American Patriot

Margaret and her husband John Corbin defended Fort Washington in Manhattan against Hessian troops. The couple took charge of a cannon when the gunner was killed. After John was killed, Margaret continued to fire the canon herself until she was wounded. She was the first woman to receive a pension as a disabled soldier from the United States government
