Wladyslaw Sk?odowski and his daughters (from left) Maria, Bronis?awa, and Helena. Maria became Marie Curie (1867-1934), a Polish-French physicist and chemist and multiple Nobel laureate. Her achievements include a theory of radioactivity (a term that she coined), techniques for isolating radioactive isotopes, and the discovery of two elements, polonium and radium.
