Tipi of Assiniboine Indian Chief. The Assiniboine are a First Nations/Native American people originally from the Northern Great Plains of North America. They suffered epidemics with high mortality, most notably smallpox among the Assiniboine. Bodmer was hired as an artist to record images of cities, rivers, towns and peoples they saw along the way, including the many tribes of Native Americans along the Missouri River and in that region
