Peter Abelard

Medieval philosophers relied heavily on the works of Aristotle, whose system of logic had been handed down in the translations and summaries of Boethius and in the commentaries of such Arab thinkers as the Spaniard Averroes. Peter Abelard (1079-1142), a medieval French scholastic philosopher, theologian and logician, followed Boethius in insisting that the methods of logic should be applied to Christian theology. His love affair with his pupil Heloise became a popular subject with later writers and artists
