Photograph of a Thought, c. 1894

A Thoughtograph or psychic photograph. Made by Charles Lacey, c. 1894-98. Albumen and gelatin silver print. A head and face can be seen in the center of this photograph, with a thought emerging in a cloud above. Spirit photography became popular in the late 19th century, after some charlatans discovered that photo negatives could be doctored to show the hidden element of life, including ghosts, thoughts, and souls
