Railroad Construction

On December 31, 1886, the City Council of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed an ordinance granting the Chicago, Santa Fe and Californian Railroads the right to build in Iowa. Construction by the Santa Fe Railroad Company began the next day on January 1st, 1887, with fill being added at Fort Madison, Iowa
