Robert Millikan, American Physicist

Robert Millikan (1868-1953), American physicist, receiving the Gold Medal of the Radiological Society of North America from Robert J. May for his work in the field of x-rays, December 20, 1930. Millikan made many large discoveries in the fields of electricity, optics and molecular physics, including accurately determining the charge carried by an electron. He wrote many books while working as a professor at the University of Chicago, including textbooks that simplified the teaching of physics. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1923
