Soranus of Ephesus, Ancient Greek Physician

Bust of Soranus of Ephesus, a Greek physician in the first and second centuries AD. Soranus trained in Alexandria and practiced in Rome. He specialized in gynecology, obstetrics and pediatrics and wrote a number of works that formed medical opinion for the next 1500 years. He was one of the chief representatives of the Methodist school of medicine, which treated the symptoms rather than causes of disease
