TIROS VII Weather Satellite with simulated space environment, showing camera systems underneath. Launched over the period of 1960 - 1965, TIROS (Television Infrared Observation Satellites) was the first series of polar orbiter. They proved that weather prediction could be enhanced by proper interpretation of data collected on Earth's atmosphere from space-based satellites
