Victoria Sackville-West

English poet and novelist, born into an old aristocratic family in 1892 (died 1962), proprietors of Knole House in Kent. Vita Sackville-West wrote about the Kentish countryside and she was the chief model for Orlando in Virginia wolf's novel of that same title from 1928. Sackville-West's poem, THE LAND, was awarded the Hawthorne Prize in 1927. She is best known for her novels which were often best sellers in England - The Edwardians, All Passion Spent and Family History among others. Despite her long marriage to diplomat and critic Harold Nicolson she (and Nicolson) had numerous Homosexual affairs and loves. They remained together until her death of cancer and had two children
