William Cheselden, Anatomoist

English surgeon and teacher of anatomy and surgery William Cheselden (1688 - 1752) performing a dissection at the Barber-Surgeons Hall, circa 1730. An anonymous oil painting by an artist of limited skill. Cheselden is wearing his turban, which he preferred to the customary wigs worn by the rest of the surgeons. Cheselden was influential in establishing surgery as a scientific medical profession. He also published the first full and accurate description of the anatomy of the human skeletal system
