Lt. Col. C.S. Worthington

Lt. Col. Claude S. Worthington, D.S.O. Manchester Regiment, who died from wounds received in France in the First World War. He served throughout the Gallipoli Campaign, and was in command of the battalion at the evacuation. Afterwards he saw further fighting in Egypt, and in March 1917, the battalion went to France where he was wounded. Worthington, who was educated at Sedbergh School, had many sporting interests. He joined the Manchester Rugby Club in 1896; he was a rock-climber and a skater; he played cricket for Alderley Edge; and was a long-distance runner
