Adolf Hitlers dining room in the Obersalzberg house

In 1928 Hitler rented a small, two-storey house in Berchtesgaden called Haus Wachenfeld. It was typically Bavarian, with heavy wooden furniture and hunting trophies adorning the walls. His monthly rent was about lb10. In 1929, probably using the money earned from his book Mein Kampf, he bought the building outright. Progressively he enlarged and improved the house and, once he became Chancellor in 1933, major alterations were made to accord with his new importance. The card was bought on September 2nd 1944
