View over Dikkebus Lake, Dickebusch, Belgium

The name Dickebusch means hick forest and dates from the time that this area was dense woodland. The Germans never took the lake, although they reached the water in May 1918. This was a rest area and temporary huts and tent lines were set up and medical services were established.
