Essex Yeomanry Memorial, German Bunker Gold Beach
The Essex came ashore here at O730 on D-Day equipped with Sherman DD (Duplex Drive) tanks and Sextons (self-propelled 25 pdr guns). Yeomanry Regiments are rarely mentioned in the accounts of D-Day - the Official History does not mention the Essex at all. They do have a Memorial in the grounds of the Bayeux Museum, as does their partner Regiment the Notts (Sherwood Rangers) Yeomanry
