In August 1934 President von Hindenburg died. Thus Adolf Hitler came to Nuremberg in September 1934 as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. The parade of participants took more than five hours to pass through the town and when Hitler spoke on the Zeppelin Field there were over 400, 000 people there to hear him. The rally, which ran from 5-11 September, was filmed by Leni Reifenstahl, who named her work Triumph of the Will, and this title was retrospectively attached to the rally itself. So spectacular were the parades, and so excellent the footage, that no other rallies were filmed and even today there is still considerable demand for video-tape versions of the work.
