1914 VAD staff in 1917
Members of Birchington VAD staff who were the longest serving when the photograph was taken in 1917. Standing (left to right) Camille Van Dyck (Belgian, origianlly a patient, he had lost his speech through shock and remained at the hospital for the duration of the War, working as a hospital orderly; Dr Harry Worthington, Medical Officer (the Birchington General Practioner); Clara Buss; Fanny Watson, Major PHG Powell-Cotton. Seated (left to right); Dora Watson, Hannah Powell-Cotton; Hilda Stone. The Quex Park VAD Hospital opened on 15 October 1914 and closed on 31 January 1919. The hospital was run by Kent/178, the Birchington Detachment. The Commandant was Hannah Powell-Cotton (1881-1964), wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton (1866-1940) of Quex Park, founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum
