Powell-Cotton daughters and friend
The three daughters of Major and Mrs Powell-Cotton and a friend play in the garden of Quex Park in September 1916. The children are (left to right) Elizabeth Worthington (daughter of Dr Worthington, the VAD's Medical Officer and Birchington GP, Diana Powell Cotton (1908-1986), Antoinette Powell-Cotton (1913-1997) and Mary Powell-Cotton (1910-1998). The Quex Park VAD Hospital opened on 15 October 1914 and closed on 31 January 1919. The hospital was run by Kent/178, the Birchington Detachment. The Commandant was Hannah Powell-Cotton (1881-1964), wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton (1866-1940) of of Quex Park, founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum
