Studio photograph of Private Wilber Avery, 724244 of the 12th Canadian Field Ambulance. He was a patient at the Quex Park VAD Hospital from 8 April until 11 June 1918, suffering from Myalgia. The studio photograph shows him sitting on a chair, holding a stick in his left hand and resting his right arm on a table. His regimental cap is on the table. He is wearing the patients uniform of hospital blues - blue serge jacket and trousers, white shirt and red tie. On the reverse of the photograph is written Avery C.E.F. May 1918'.The Quex Park VAD Hospital opened on 15 October 1914 and closed on 31 January 1919. The hospital was run by Kent/178, the Birchington Detachment. The Commandant was Hannah Powell-Cotton (1881-1964), wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton (1866-1940) of Quex Park, founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum
