One of 10 cards in Nowak-Varsovies Vox Mortuum Series

Halt! One of 12 striking designs under the title Vox Mortuum (Voice of the Dead) for the World-wide Union of Women for International Peace. The association was formed by American Clara dArcis on the outbreak of WW1. It continued strongly in the post-war years, working with the League of Nations. The figures here bear a strong resemblance to the French WW1 Memorial near the city gate in Verdun. The emotive power of the images is perhaps most vivid in the Death Notice Card Nazi 600dpi0027
