1st Canadian Parachute Battalion Plaque, Robehomme

The Canadians, together with the 8th and 9th Parachute Battalions formed the 3rd Parachute Brigade Group under Brigadier James Hill. The Group, together with the 5th Group under Brigadier Nigel Poett, were the assault forces of the 6th Airborne Division's Landings and were therefore the first British troops to land in Normandy. Amongst the pathfinders, who marked the Drop and Landing Zones, was Acting Captain Robert de Latour who was born in Canada. Sadly he was killed and is buried in Ranville CWGC Cemetery
