4th Special Service Brigade HQ Memorial, Sallenelles
The Brigade was made up of Royal Marine Commandos Nos 41, 46, 47 and 48. Like the other Special Forces it was charged with filling the gaps between the major landings and with overcoming particular obstacles. It was well spread out - No. 41 landed on Sword Beach, 46 and 48 on Juno and No. 47 on Gold. Later the Brigade took on the fortified position of the Douvres radar station which held out for almost two weeks
