: 51st Highland Division Stained Glass Window, Vught

51st Highland Division Stained Glass Window, Vught

In the 1944 fighting to defeat the Germans in Holland the whole area around here became the responsibility of the 51st Div. As a result, the local population remember the 51st not just with memorials but also with gratitude. Vught Town Hall looks a little like a fairyland castle and in it is a special room called the Highland Room'. Photographs of returning veterans are displayed and there is this magnificent stained glass Memorial Window carrying the Divisional Badge, which commemorates the liberation of Vught on 26 October 1944. The room is normally in daily working use and if a visit is planned it is wise to contact the Town Hall first to make arrangements
