Adolf Hitler and Rudolf Hess in the Berghof

Coincidentally, Hess served in the same infantry regiment, the 6th Bavarian Reserve Division, as Adolf Hitler during the First World War, although he later qualified as a pilot. After the Armistice he joined the right-wing Freikorps and took part in street battles against the Communists. An early member of the Nazi Party, he became very close to Hitler and voluntarily joined him in prison after the failure of the Munich putsch. There, and later, he helped Hitler in the writing of Mein Kampf. They are seen here in the Berghof (Haus Wachenfeld) overlooking the Unterberg
