Airborne Forces Plaque, old St Elisabeth's Hospital

The image is that of the old hospital in the form that it was during the battle. In 2000 the building was converted into apartments. This plaque is one of several that were placed in or around the chapel and at the time of the photograph there were plans for them to be returned to the Hartenstein Museum to whom they had been donated in the first place. This plaque has both the medical corps insignia as well as the Airborne Pegasus on it and had been in the main hall of the hospital. Outside the entrance is the Airborne Commemorative Marker No 6 commemorating 16th Field Ambulance's stay at the hospital which featured strongly in the last days of Operation Market Garden
