Badge of the German ex soldiers organisation Stahlhelm
This card was issued by the Hamburg local branch of the national German ex-soldiers organisation, known as the Steel Helmet, which was formed after the Armistice. In 1920 the organisation supported the nationalistic ideas of the anti-communist movement and in 1929 Hitler publicly sided with the Stalhelm in opposing the American Young Plan proposal for the payment of the German war reparations. The Stahlhelm lapel badge is a small pattern steel helmet, similar in concept to the British pattern helmet badge of the MOTHs (Memorable Order of Tin Hats). Card posted 5 August 1928
