Following the capture of Joe's Bridge on 10 September 1944, the following day D Squadron of 2nd Household Cavalry Regiment arrived here - then called Cafe Rustoord. The distinctive Memorial explains that... on this very spot the British Liberators set foot on Dutch soil for the first time'. At the unveiling in 1994 was Sir Richard Buchanan-Jardine who as Lieutenant Buchanan-Jardine had Commanded the Squadron in 1944. He was later awarded the Dutch Bronze Lion
