Chancellor Hitler meeting President Hindenburg
On 17 November 1932, Hindenburg offered the Chancellorship to Hitler, who turned it down because the President would not grant him full powers. The following year, aware of a decline in popularity of his Nazi Party, Hitler accepted and on 31 January 1933, became Chancellor of a collaboration government. It was the beginning of the end for democratic government in Germany.
