Dramatic be-flagged drawing of Victor Emmanuel & Mussolini
The caption reads, After toil, strength in arms. In delusions of grandeur, Mussolini saw himself re creating the glory that was the Roman Empire. The main target for his imperialist expansion plans was East Africa, and on 3 October 1935 the Italians invaded Ethiopia. When Addis Ababa fell on 5 May 1936, Mussolini declared Victor Emmanuel III (without consulting him) Emperor, to mark the establishment of Italian suzerainty. This postcard celebrates the event. The letters PNF mean National Fascist Party
