Serious faces of Jan Masaryk & President Edward Benes
On the left is Jan Masaryk and on the right Edward Benes. Masaryk, a previous Slovak President, was Czech Ambassador to Germany, while Benes was President of Czechoslovakia. When Hitler had not mentioned the German Sudatenland minority during the 1938 Greater Germany Rally, they thought that a negotiated settlement might be possible. What they did not know was that Hitler had already finalised the plan for the invasion of Czechoslovakia before the Rally began
