Fascist General Emilio Mola full portrait in uniform
In October 1936, Mola was coverging on Madrid, with four rebel columns. His announcement that he had a fifth column in the city gave rise to the use of the term as a subversive force working against the establishment from within. General Mola died in an air crash on 3 June 1937
