: The Frank Doucette Memorial, Lierop, Holland

The Frank Doucette Memorial, Lierop, Holland

On the 19th August 1944 Frank Doucette was a gunner on a B17 that was shot down over Eindhoven just north-west of here. He was taken in by the Dutch Resistance and worked with them in and around the forest of Lierop at Moorsel which was used as a hiding place for as many as thirty men at a time. During a battle with the Germans Frank was killed on 19 September 1944 and a Memorial was erected over his grave. Residents of the street the Memorial is in moved it here from its original site in order to look after it. The street is called the Amerikaans Vlieger (American Flyer). The badly weathered Memorial and plaques below it dating from 1974, tell the story
