: German athlete hurdling the five Olympic rings

German athlete hurdling the five Olympic rings

In order to attract the greatest number of foreign visitors to Berlin so that they could witness the hoped-for demonstration of Aryan athletic superiority, Hitler relaxed his anti-Jewish activities for the period of the Games. The Fuhrer himself led the opening procession into the stadium, where an orchestra and chorus of over 3, 000 voices led by Richard Strauss sang Deutschland Uber Alles and the Horst Wessel song. This card was issued to raise funds for its athletes and carries a printed message from the Committees chairman
