The card commemorates the first anniversary of the conquest of Ethiopia in 1936 and the adoption by Victor Emmanuel III, on 9 May 1936, of the title Emperor of Ethiopia. The inscription has the period printed as 9 Maggio 1936-XIV to 9 Maggio 1937-XV. The additional numbers XIV and XV relate to the year of Mussolinis accession. He came to power in 1922, and so 1936 is year XIV and 1937 is year XV
