One People, One State, One Leader is the slogan which encapsulated the Nazi ideal. Hitler was Germany and his aims were Germany's. An Austrian himself, he wanted to bring his homeland into the bosom of the country which he now ruled. After the First World War, Austria formed herself into an independent republic with nine states:Vienna, Tyrol, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Burgengland, Styria, Salzburg, Carinthia and Vorarlberg
