A serious Hitler presents a new unit its regimental flag
Each new colour or standard was reverently touched by the Blutfahne (Blood Flag) symbolising the passing to the new unit of the spirit and commitment of those who died at Munich in 1923. The Blutfahne was the flag they had carried and was supposedly covered in their blood. Hitler performed the ceremony in the style of some ancient priest performing a holy rite, holding the Blutfahne in one hand and the new colour in the other so that the mystical essence ran through his body. The set of his face suggests that he believes in his own story
