Italian and a Colonial soldier stand with bayonets
Dramatic representation of Italys over-estimated military success in East Africa, this card commemorates the victory of the joint Italian and Colonial 70th Infantry Regiment at the battle of Ancona on 6 October 1935. Before the turn of the century, Italian expansionist martial expeditions in East Africa had met with little success. At the battle of Adua (Ethiopia) in March 1896, six thousand Italians were completely routed by native troops. The memorial obelisk in the picture says The defeat at Adua on 1 March 1896 has been revenged by the victory of 6.X.1935
