Memorial to British and Allied Forces, Jonkerbos
This simple column Memorial is in the Jonkerbos Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in a wooded area known as Jonkers Bosch (Children's Wood). The CWGC Cemetery was created by the 3rd Casualty Clearing Station and contains 1, 639 burials with casualties from both Operation Market Garden and Operation Veritable. The stone column commemorates the men who were removed to this cemetery from one near the Marienbosch Convent which was a typical hospital burial ground with the graves made by the medical staff as the men died of their wounds. The stone carries a familiar quotation from Rupert Brooke's The Soldier and the words To those men of the British and Allied Forces who gave their lives and are buried here
