Memorial to Lieutenant Charles Dresse, Poelkappelle
Dresse was killed on this spot on 28 September 1918. The memorial is surmounted by a Breton cross flanked by statues of Mary and Joseph. A volunteer, Dresse took command of a dwindling force when all other officers had been killed but was killed himself in a counter attack on a machine gun position, an act for which he was mentioned in Despatches
