: Memorial to Lieutenant Freddy Limbosch, Belgian SAS

Memorial to Lieutenant Freddy Limbosch, Belgian SAS

Freddy and his men were parachuted into Normandy in Operation Shakespeare and again here in September 1944 in Operation Caliban. Their task was to gather intelligence on German troop movements and to send it back before attacking where possible. Near here they noticed a concentration of German SS and Limbosch felt that the advancing Allies should be told as soon as possible. He was killed whle on the way to pass the news. The Memorial, bearing his name and the SAS Wings, marks where he was killed. He is buried in the local cemetery
