Memorial Plaque to Group Captain C. H. Appleton
Appleton was educated at Malvern College and joined the Royal Air Force in the late 1920s. He saw action from the beginning of the war, hence his impressive collection of decorations. He was killed on 12 August 1944 at Le Mesnil-Guerard while Commanding 124 Wing and is buried at Banneville-la-Campagne Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery. Although it does not say so, this was probably put up by the Wings over Normandy Association
