Memorial to Sgt Charles Ranginawawahia Sciasia

New Zealander Sciasia, born of an Italian father and a Maori mother, played, with his brother John, for the Maori All Blacks in 1913. He enlisted in the 1st Bn Wellington Regiment and served in Gallipoli. On 31 July 1917, age 25, he was reported missing. The memorial, built to 1.72 metres, Sciasias height, with rounded shoulders to represent a soldier bowed down with the weight of his equipment, was unveiled on the 90th Anniversary of his death in 2007
