The Memorials area St Aubin, Juno Beach, Normandy
The main infantry and armoured forces landed centrally on each of the five landing beaches. Between them landed Special Forces tasked with taking out German strongpoints and then linking the main units together. The Canadian North Shore Regiment landed here as did 48 RM Commando with the job of clearing east towards the British on Sword Beach. The bunker in the centre of the picture held a 50mm gun which had to be silenced using two tanks and a Royal Marine Centaur
