Motor cyclist competitors making a running start
During the First World War, the motorgcycle had been used for message carrying, traffic control, reconnaissance and for transport by machine-gun units. In 1938 the SS motorcycling team won the Donnington Intergnational 6 Day Trial and, when presented with the trophy cup, gave the Hitler salute. A loud raspberry floated over from the direction of the British team. German industry used the cover of international sport and commerce to hide their development of modern military automotive vehicles and aeroplanes
