The sailing competitions took place at Kiel, and it had been there in 1918 that the mutiny of German sailors had sparked off the wave of socialist strikes that brought down the Kaiser. Germany won five of the seven rowing events, but only one sailing class. This card, in keeping with German philatelic tradition, was issued as an official collectors item, and has been franked by a handstamp from a Dresden stamp exhibition, which ran concurrently with the Olympics
