Sole survivors of the Black Hawk massacre, Earls Court
In 1863 an Ute Indian leader in Utah, called Black Hawk, organised attacks on Government officials and Mormon settlers in defence of his lands. They retaliated, and in 1866 at the Morman Meeting House in Circleville, white settlers killed captive Paiute Indians including women and children. This picture was probably taken at the Red Man's Spectacle Exhibition
