Spanish rebel propaganda card with Colonel Jose Moscardo
The revolution in Spain was a military one against the elected, communist-influenced, popular front government. Five cities in Morocco and twelve in mainland Spain rose against the government. The cadets at the Toledo Military Academy near Madrid followed their commandant, Colonel Jose Moscardo, who declared for the rebels. The Academy was besieged by Loyalist militiamen for two months before being relieved on 28 September 1936. This card was posted in Seville on 1 November 1937
