Thorogood & Matthews Memorial, Sint Oedenrode

On 21 September 1944, during Operation Market Garden, two British troopers of C Squadron 44th Royal Tank Regiment were killed when their tank was hit by anti-tank shells as they provided infantry support for the US 502nd PIR. In 1994, this plaque on a small upright wooden post, was raised on the spot where they were killed. It was designed by the director of the Kienehof Primary School, and unveiled by George Thorogood, John's brother, in the presence of children from the School. The men, John Thorogood, age 21, and Stanley Matthews, age 22, are buried side by side in Uden Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery
