The Worlds First Postcard. ~
Austrian postal authorities issued this card on 1 October 1869. Its postage rate was 2 Kreuzer (half the cost of a letter) and it carried a pre-printed stamp showing the head of the Emperor Franz-Josef. It measured 122 x 88 mm and bore no picture. It was an immediate and overwhelming success. The card idea was adopted around the world, however, pictures would not make a full appearance until around the turn of the century. The Nazis made great use of the postcard for propaganda purposes
