Satirical cartoon, Dressing the Minister
Satirical cartoon, Dressing the Minister alias roasting the Guinea pig. A tax charging a guinea for a licence to wear hair powder was introduced in May 1795. A group of Frenchified barbers are taking their revenge on the Prime Minister, William Pitt, who hangs naked before a fire to be roasted. One complains: What take away all our Business and then make us pay the Prince's debts'. Another says: "I shall have a double appetite when the Guinea pig is well roasted"
